Oh Canada! Canadians Vie for Top Honors in Blooker Prize – Winner Announced Monday April 3:

(PRWEB) - Raleigh, NC (PRWEB) March 31, 2006 -— Jason Pultz, author of "Comic Strip Volume 1: Scarybear and Friends" (www.scarybear.org), and Ryan North, author of "Dinosaur Comics: Huge Eyes, Beaks, Intelligence, and Ambition"(www.qwantz.com), are two Canadians with eyes on the prize, the Lulu Blooker Prize, that is. Both Canucks are competing in the Comics category.

With Pultz representing Vancouver, BC and North representing Toronto, ON, the fervor and anticipation of the winners’ announcement on April 3 has a decidedly east coast Canadian blog v. west coast Canadian blog spin.

As mentioned, winners of the Lulu Blooker Prize (www.lulublookerprize.com) will be announced on Monday, April 3, 2006. There will be $1,000 USD awarded to the winner in each of the three categories, with an extra $1,000 USD going to one of those three who has been deemed by the judges to be the best overall. The judges are Cory Doctorow (www.craphound.com), Robin Miller (www.roblimo.com), and Paul Jones (www.ibiblio.com

Contender Jason Pultz describes “Comic Strip Volume 1” as comics “about a naïve bear, a drunken cowboy, and an old macintosh computer that wants to take over the world.”

Says North about his “Dinosaur Comics,” it’s “a comic about talking dinosaurs.”

The prize is sponsored by Lulu (www.lulu.com), a self-publishing website that lets anyone publish their own book or blook at no up-front charge. “Blooks are the latest landmark in the history of books,” said Bob Young, CEO of Lulu.

Other Canadian blook entries, include Cheeseburger Brown (author of "Simon of Space" in the fiction category) and Raincoast Books, the Canadian publisher of "We are Iran: The Persian Blogs" by Nasrin Alavi.

A total of 89 blooks were submitted by “blauthors” (i.e. blook authors) from over a dozen countries, including the UK, Canada, India, Australia, Mexico, France, Spain and the Netherlands.
